Since Joomla is a content management system or CMS for short, most of site settings are captured during the Joomla installation. During the Joomla Installation, you will be sequestered to supply MYSQL database information.
I thought I would share this real quick note on database management and MYSQL. After successfully managing to create users, databases, and grants, I was directed by a friend of mine to http://www.phpmyadmin.net/home_page/index.php.
For those of you who have a predilection towards Oracle, phpMyAdmin is the equivalent of Oracle Enterprise Manager. The interface allows you to quickly navigate through your database and associated objects. Enjoy!

How to Modify a Database Connection Setting in Joomla After the Initial Installation
On initial installation of Joomla, the installation guide requires the user to enter the database information. The joomla database configuration information that was captured is stored in the root of the joomla installtion folder in a file called configuration.php.
File Location
[joomla home]/configuration.php
Database Settings Section
/* Database Settings */
var $dbtype = 'mysql';
var $host = 'localhost';
var $user = 'jdemo';
var $password = 'jdemo';
var $db = 'jdemo';
var $dbprefix = 'jos_';
Incidentally, there are a number of other settings, such as ftp, mail, etc...
